Microneedling has received quite a bit of coverage — and it seems to be on trend amongst celebrities. The good news for the rest of us is that it’s safe, effective, and more affordable than some other treatments.

During microneedling, the provider pokes tiny holes into the skin (it isn’t very painful, these are itty-bitty needles). Your body takes notice and produces collagen and elastin to “heal” those areas. Microneedling helps reduce acne scars, brown spots, wrinkles, loose skin, and even under eye bags.

At Strother Dermatology we use a device called SkinPen by Bellus, a microneedling tool that uses single-use microneedle cartridges, so its sterile for every patient. It is also made to be precise and go places microneedling rollers can’t, like near your nose and above your lip. To get even more dramatic results you can opt for the SkinPen with PRP (platelet rich plasma). This is where the provider draws a small amount of your blood and extracts the PRP, then microneedles it back into the treatment area. This has been nicknamed the “vampire facial” but don’t be scared, the results will leave you glowing.
